CARES ACT FRAUD ARRESTS

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says 5 people were arrested for CARES Act fraud. The five are accused of stealing victims’ identities and information to obtain CARES Act loans, and defrauding financial institutions from $4,000 to $70,000. Investigators said they would fraudulently apply and receive CARES ACT loan money and open accounts at various financial institutes like Navy Federal with the intent to scheme and defraud. Investigators say several more arrest are expected.
