FRED LEVIN DIES

Pensacola Attorney Fred Levin has died from COVID-19 at the age of 83. Levin, a Pensacola native, was known as one of the nation’s top trial attorneys throughout his career, which began in 1961 when he joined the Levin and Askew law firm founded by his brother David and Reubin Askew. Levin’s most famous victory came in 1990s when he lead an effort to reach a 13 billion dollar settlement with the tobacco industry. Levin donated more than 35 million dollars to non-profits and universities and the University of Florida named its law school after Levin in 1999 after he made a 10 million contribution. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016.
