Gulf Power customers will see a slight decrease in their monthly power bills after the Florida Public Service Commission approved changes to the power company’s rates in response to Hurricane Sally and the end of coal use at Plant Crist. Costs will decrease by 73 cents for each 1,000 kilowatt-hour of electricity. The allowed Gulf Power to recover the 206-million-dollars from damages caused by Hurricane Sally in 2020 which would have added about 3-dollars per 1,000 kilowatt-hour of electricity for Gulf Power customers, but that increase was offset by Gulf Power’s switching from using coal as a fuel source to natural gas leading to a total net decrease of $0.73 for a 1,000 kilowatt-hour bill.
