MEDICAL EXAMINER WILL STAY ON THE JOB

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting that First Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner Doctor Andrea Minyard will continue to perform her duties for the foreseeable future. Minyard’s contract expired at midnight Sunday, but her attorney said she was willing to work through November at her current contract rate. An ongoing salary dispute resulted in Minyard suing all four counties in the First Judicial Circuit to keep from handing over the salary information, asserting that it was not public record. Medical examiners in Florida are appointed by the governor after being nominated by the Medical Examiners Commission. The commission will meet in November, and it is expected to decide whether to reappoint Minyard or appoint a new medical examiner.
