The Florida Department of Transportation has closed the Mid-Bay Bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay for emergency repairs after a routine inspection revealed corrosion on post-tensioning tendons, a prestressed steel cable inside the bridge that reinforces the concrete. FDOT said the closure was done as a cautionary measure to repair the tendons. Message boards will be placed on both ends of the bridge to alert drivers about the temporary closure, but it is not clear how long the bridge will stay closed.
