Hurricane Michael caused extensive damage to cotton farmers throughout Northwest Florida and into southern Georgia and Alabama, What the Hurricane didn’t blow away, heavy rains washed away, including Escambia and Santa Rosa. The losses of the three counties like are estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars. A cotton farmer in Jay told the Pensacola News Journal that Santa Rosa County probably had the best cotton crop in 30 years, but 2 feet more rain than normal drowned the crops in the fields. Cotton, is planted in the spring and usually harvested by Thanksgiving. Farmers are hoping the United States Department of Agriculture will provide some financial relief.
