More information has come in about the latest earthquake in Northwest Florida. The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.7 quake occurred at 6:40 a.m. near Century in North Escambia County. The epicenter was first reported by the USGS to be in Alabama, but further analysis of the data Monday determined the center to be near the end of Old Ferry Road off Campbell Road. This is the 5th quake reported the last 19 days, all in the same general area in Northwest Florida or South Alabama. The U.S. Geological Survey says the area sits on the Bahamas Fracture Seismic Zone and other earthquakes have occurred along this zone in recent years, but most are too weak to be felt. A significant earthquake is not considered likely in the area.
