SCHOOLS CONSULTANT ARRESTED

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says a consultant for the Walton County School District has been arrested for bid tampering. The arrest of 49-year-old John Hoard was the result of an investigation that began last October at the request of the Florida Department of Education and Walton County Schools Superintendent Russell Hughes. Hoard was the school board’s contracted insurance consultant and also the managing partner of a Tallahassee-based insurance sales company, which submitted a bid for the Walton County Schools telemedicine services insurance contract. The bid won the contract, but investigators say Hoard used his position as a paid consultant to change his company’s bid after the deadline. He has been booked into the Leon County Jail.
