REQUEST TO CLOSE ROADS PULLED

Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson has pulled a request to close parts of three public streets at Baptist Hospital’s new location off Brent Lane. It appeared the Pensacola City Council was going to deny a request to vacate Rawson Lane south of Brent Lane, Corday Street east of Dixie Street and a cul-de-sac road called Joe Elliot Way. Commercial property owners have said they are concerned that closing the streets would limit access to their property. The hospital is building a new, 250-bed, 550 million-dollar facility at the Brent Lane location and the property was annexed into the city last month. To close a public road and turn it over to private owners requires two public hearings and votes by the City Council.
