AIR FORCE DEATH INVESTIGATION

An Air Force accident investigation board has determined that the 29-year-old Air Force Special Tactics jumpmaster who was pulled out of a C-130 aircraft over the Gulf of Mexico late last year, was likely dead before he hit the water. The investigation indicated that loose material on Staff Sergeant Cole Condiff’s reserve parachute was sucked into the aircraft’s windstream, slamming his body into a doorframe, likely causing fatal injuries. Condiff was declared dead November 8th, and the search was suspended 17 days later. His body was not recovered. The report said training deficiencies were major factors in Condiff’s death and the commander and chief enlisted leader were relieved of their duties.
