WENTWORTH MUSEUM NAME CHANGE

The name of the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum in Pensacola may be renamed after newly uncovered documents revealed that T.T. Wentworth was the leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Escambia County in the 1920s. Wentworth’s collection of memorabilia became the state-owned museum operated by the University of West Florida’s Historic Trust. Wentworth was an Escambia County commissioner and Escambia County tax collector. The documents show that Wentworth became “Exalted Cyclops,” the leader of the local chapter of the KKK in 1925. The Trust is investigating the appropriate process and approvals required to rename the Museum.
