The man charged with starting the May 6th Mussett Bayou wildfire that burned over 300 acres in south Walton County and destroyed 34 homes, has pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor charges. 59-year-old Allen Smith was arrested on May 12th by Walton County sheriff’s deputies after investigators with the state’s Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement determined that he had been burning siding from his trailer in a burn barrel at the rear of his property on Mussett Bayou Road and left the burn barrel unattended.
