The eastern end of Perdido Key was fragmented by Hurricane Sally, separating the barrier island east of Johnson Beach in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, into three smaller islands. Park Superintendent Dan Brown said Perdido Key has been breached in the past in about the same areas. Brown said the Park Service is still assessing the impacts to its facilities and along Highway 399 and Fort Pickens Road.
