FEMA MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION

President Trump has declared a major disaster exists in Florida from Hurricane Sally, which means Federal Emergency Management Agency aid will be available for local governments and non-profits for emergency work and repair in Escambia County. The County will get 75% of its costs related to Hurricane Sally repaid by the federal government, and will provide some funding for Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington counties. However, the declaration does not mention assistance for individuals. Escambia County Administrator Janice Gilley said they will continue to seek funding for individual assistance, which would provide grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the storm.
