SWAT STANDOFF

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department says a SWAT standoff with a suspect in a motel room on Nine Mile Road ended late Friday afternoon when the man shot himself. It happened in a ground-level room at the Budget Inn when deputies were attempting to arrest the man on felony domestic abuse warrants. The man barricaded himself inside the room with a weapon and refused to come out for over an hour. About 5 p.m., deputies heard a single gunshot from the room and entered the room. He was taken to an area hospital. The man’s name and condition have not been released and the investigation is continuing.
