GORDON TOWNE DIES

A local broadcasting legend has died. Gordon Towne passed away at the age of 90. He joined WCOA, Pensacola’s oldest radio station, in 1963 as a morning disc jockey replacing Ted Cassidy who would go on to even bigger fame, portraying Lurch on “The Addams Family”. Towne would eventually become WCOA’s general manager and spent close to 30 years with the station. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 3rd at First Baptist Church in Pensacola, although Towne has already been cremated. A Navy veteran, he will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery.
