The total number of homes destroyed in that fast-moving weekend wildfire in Eastpoint, east of Apalachicola, may be as high as 36. Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith said one man died of what appeared to be heart attack. The fire began sometime between 5 and 6 p.m. on Ridge Road and quickly spread. Sheriff Smith said some roads will remain closed and power has yet to be restored in all areas. The sheriff said he has spoken with Governor Rick Scott and state aid is being coordinated. Fire departments from throughout the county responded to the fire and about 125 people were forced from their homes. No injuries have been reported.
