The remains of an Army Air Corps Staff Sergeant that were just recently identified, will be buried in Pensacola on Thursday. Percy Mathews, of Andalusia, Alabama, was 25 on May 19th, 1943, when his B-17 bomber was shot down over France. Mathews was a member of the 422nd Bombardment Squadron, 305th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, participating in a strike against the German submarine base at Saint-Nazaire, France. His unidentified remains were interred in the American cemetery in the Brittany American Cemetery and have now been positively identified using DNA, anthropological analysis, and material evidence.
