WALTON COUNTY TRAFFIC FATALITIES

The Florida Highway Patrol said two people died in a multiple-vehicle crash early yesterday that shut down Interstate 10 just east of DeFuniak Springs about 5 a.m. Walton County Fire Rescue responded to the crash, which involved three vehicles when a pickup ran off the Interstate into the median and overturned, causing a toolbox on the truck to hit the windshield of another car, which went off the highway and hit a tree. Two people died and one person suffered serious injuries. Traffic was detoured to U.S. Highway 331, to Highway 90 in Ponce de Leon. The Highway Patrol says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
