BAY COUNTY HURRICANE PROPERTY DAMAGE

Bay County property appraisers say Hurricane Michael has caused an estimated 1.14 billion dollars of damage after they assessed 48,000 of the county’s 73,000 buildings. Dan Sowell, county property appraiser, said the new assessments would likely lower many property values in the county, which will be factored into residents’ 2019 property taxes. Sowell said he hoped to have the full initial assessment of the county finished in the next two to three weeks.
