A 66-year-old man who served almost 27 years in prison for second-degree murder before his release in 2017, died in a house fire in Callaway Wednesday night. Wilmer Adkison, died when his home at 1903 Greenwood Way was engulfed in flames. His brother, Johnny, was at the home Wednesday when the fire broke out, but could not get to him. In 1990 Wilmer Adkison fatally shot his live-in girlfriend, Gladys Hall, in Walton County and was convicted of second-degree murder. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
