FORMER UNITED WAY CHAIRMAN ARRESTED

The former board chairman of what was the United Way of Santa Rosa County has been arrested and charged with grand theft. David Willhoit, who was elected chairman of the board in January, is accused of making two unauthorized withdrawals of $3,200 from the charity’s bank account. Kyle Holley, the organization’s current acting administrator, told the Pensacola News Journal that board members became suspicious when their bank reported two unusual withdrawals. In October 2018, then-executive director, Guy Thompson, was removed after an internal audit and an FBI probe into the organization’s finances. In March, United Way Worldwide announced it had revoked United Way of Santa Rosa’s charter. Holley said Willhoit’s arrest is in no way related to the FBI investigation.
