An Escambia County mother has been arrested after her 2-year-old daughter was found dead in a car where she had been left for 8 hours. Major Andrew Hobbs, spokesman for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Investigators said 36-year-old Jessica Monell arrived home at the Aqua Porta Apartments complex on Meadson Road in West Escambia County around 6 a.m. Wednesday, went inside and went to sleep, leaving her daughter Joy alone in the car. When she woke up around 4pm, the child had died. Deputies found baggies containing suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as syringes and a Xanax pill. Monell was booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond on charges of homicide-child neglect manslaughter, and narcotics violations.
