The Florida Legislature is closer to passing a sanctuary city ban. The Florida House passed House Bill 527 by a vote of 69-47. The bill forces state and local government agencies to fully cooperate with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and is aimed at requiring law enforcement to honor detainer requests from ICE and hold illegal immigrants who are arrested for other crimes. Governor DeSantis supports the ban and the Senate version is expected to come up for a vote later this week.
