COMMISSIONER UNDERHILL LEGAL FEES DENIED

Escambia County Commissioners did not vote on whether they will use taxpayer dollars to pay Commissioner Doug Underhill’s legal fees in a libel lawsuit. That means Commissioner Underhill will have to pay the fees himself. Underhill is being sued for comments he made on social media in April to political consultant Steve Miller. Underhill said Miller contributed to contamination at the Rolling Hills landfill in Wedgewood while he was a managing partner with South Palafox Properties, which owns the landfill. Underhill said the comments were made while he was performing his duties as a commissioner. Chairman Lumon May said if it is proven in court Underhill was performing his commissioner duties the County could later reimburse him for the fees.
