FLORIDA-GEORGIA WATER WARS

A federal judge will hear arguments about the long-running water war between Florida and Georgia. The lawsuit, filed by Florida in 2013, is a battle about water in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river system, which starts in Georgia and flows south into the Florida Panhandle. The   Apalachicola River region is dealing with a declining oyster industry in Franklin County’s Apalachicola Bay. Florida attorneys said the judge should recommend that the Supreme Court equitably apportion the water. However, Georgia’s attorneys say Florida had not proven that the benefits of a water limit would outweigh harm to Georgia.
