The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office says a small plane crashed near the end of Oil Plant Road in Jay at about 1 p.m. yesterday in a wooded area north of Highway 4 close to the Escambia River. Santa Rosa County Emergency Management Director Brad Baker said the pilot was alone in the aircraft and was airlifted to a local area hospital by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.
