Legislation has been filed in Tallahassee to make the sale of fireworks legal on Independence Day, Memorial Day and New Year’s Eve. Under Florida’s current law some devices, such as sparklers, are legal for Floridians to buy, but anything that explodes such as firecrackers or cherry bombs, or shoots into the air like skyrockets or roman candles, are illegal. However, it is legal to buy and use aerial and explosive devices, as long as a waiver is signed saying the fireworks are intended to be used for agricultural purposes like frightening birds from crop lands or fish hatcheries. The proposal would allow individuals to pledge to use fireworks only during one of the three designated holidays.
