The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a 71-year-old Fort Walton Beach man, wanted on a narcotics warrant, tried to escape from a deputy by disguising himself as a doctor. A deputy made a traffic stop on James “Poppa” Jenkins, Jr. in Crestview and arrested him on an active warrant for selling opiates within 1,000 feet of a school. After the arrest Jenkins complained of chest pain and was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center. While there Jenkins came out from his room dressed as a doctor, wearing blue scrubs and a stethoscope, and tried to run out of the hospital’s emergency room, but was quickly apprehended. He’s now facing additional charges of resisting arrest without violence and escape.
