Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says the Florida Department of Health will no longer do business with Quest Diagnostics after what he said was Quest’s failure to follow Florida law and report results of COVID-19 in a timely manner. Quest is one of the largest private providers of testing in the state since the pandemic began, but the Department of Health said Quest failed to report nearly 75,000 results dating back to April. Most of the data is two weeks old, but some numbers date back to five months ago. Because of the backlog, the state saw a one-day spike in new cases from 1,868 Monday to 7,643 Tuesday. In a statement Quest said the delay was caused by a technical issue that has since been resolved. The company said it has provided more COVID-19 testing than any other lab.
