GULF ISLANDS SUPERINTENDENT RETIRING

Dan Brown, Superintendent of Gulf Islands National Seashore, is retiring after 45 years with the Park Service, including ten years at Gulf Islands. His last day will be January 2^nd, just six days before the park’s 50th anniversary. Brown joined the National Park Service at age 20 as part of his college work study program and eventually worked at 11 national parks. Deputy Superintendent Steve McCoy will serve as superintendent on an interim basis after Brown retires and until someone permanent is hired. Brown and his wife will remain in the Pensacola area and buy a sailboat. Brown also likes to hike mountains in his home state of Colorado, which he plans to still do once he retires.
