CENTURY-OLD BUILDING TO BE DEMOLISHED

The long-time home of the Scuba Shack at 711 South Palafox Street,   which closed after the owners retired, will be torn down to make way for a multi-story residential development. The 111-year-old building was sold to Pensacola resident Jim English last year. Because the building is more than 50 years old, the city’s Architectural Review Board had to review the demolition request. Pensacola architect Brian Spencer, who represented English, said the plan was to replace the building with between three and four residential units and a mixed-use venue.
