HATCHERY LEASE

The Pensacola News Journal is reporting the city’s controversial leasing of Bruce Beach for a fish hatchery will again come before the Pensacola City Council this week. Mayor Ashton Hayward and Councilwoman Jewel Cannada-Wynn are co-sponsoring an item for Thursday’s City Council meeting called “clarification of Bruce Beach lease.” If approved, the measure would declare the lease for the Gulf Coast Marine Fisheries Hatchery and Enhancement Center valid and extend the deadline for the completion of the project to Jan. 1, 2022. The News Journal reported in October that the city’s lease with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission may no longer be valid because the May deadline to begin construction on the project was not met.
