West Jackson Street homicide was likely related to $5K marijuana deal

Report: West Jackson Street homicide was drug-related

A newly released report indicates a homicide last week was likely drug-related.

Three men are accused of being involved in the death of Victor Manuel Chavez on Dec. 15. Alex Shavers, 21, and Christopher Portis, 34, are in custody at the Escambia County Jail, and deputies still were searching for a third man, Emanuel Dinell Adams, 21, as of Thursday afternoon.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reports on Shavers and Portis outline a $5,000 drug deal that ended in a shooting.

Deputies responded to a “man down” call at 4607 W. Jackson St. at about 4 p.m. Dec. 15, where they found Chavez lying on the ground in bloody clothes.

Around him, they found guns, cellphones and two large vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.
