The State Attorney’s Office said a shooting of an armed suspect by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies last October was justified. A bank teller at Warrington Bank on Barrancas Avenue called 911 at about 9 a.m. to report 26-year-old Demetric Carter had walked into the business and told them to call the police. Carter then left the bank and walked three blocks south to Commerce Street. Where he was confronted by deputies. Carter shot at the deputies and was wounded when they returned fire, but survived. After the shooting Carter said he was trying to kill himself and he remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
