ECSD L.E.T. FUND AG OPINION POSTPONED

The Florida Attorney General’s Office has announced they will not issue a legal opinion concerning how the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office uses the Law Enforcement Trust Fund until after the Sheriff’s budget appeal is resolved. The Escambia County Commission had asked for an opinion in October on the process for the use of the funds. Law Enforcement Trust Funds are cash and assets seized during criminal investigations. The Sheriff’s Office has used some of the funds to make donations to local nonprofits since Florida law requires the sheriff to spend 25 percent of the funds for donations to drug treatment and prevention programs, crime prevention programs, safe neighborhood groups or school resource officer programs.
