FATAL BUS CRASH

The National Transportation Safety Board discussed early findings of the fatal bus crash Tuesday in Interstate-5510 in Alabama close to the Florida line. The bus was carrying band students from Texas and traveling back from Disney World in Orlando. It was driving westbound on I-10 near Wilcox Road when it left the roadway and plunged about 50 feet down a ravine. The bus driver, Harry Caligone, died in the crash. There were 40 students and six adults on the bus who survived. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were seven passengers still hospitalized in both Pensacola and Alabama. NTSB lead investigator Pete Kotowski said Caligone was scheduled to switch drivers in Mobile. Kotowski said motorcoach operators have a 10-hour driving rule. He said the investigation will likely take 12 to 14 months to complete.
