HOLMES COUNTY DEPUTY-INVOLVED COLLISION

The Florida Highway Patrol says 85-year-old woman died after her vehicle was struck by a Holmes County Sheriff’s Office marked patrol car with its emergency lights on. Troopers say 20-year-old Deputy Sheriff Zachary Neitsch, was westbound on Thomas Drive with his emergency lights on and siren activated when Mellie Marell, of Bonifay, failed to yield right of way, and collided with the patrol car. Both were taken to Doctors Memorial Hospital, where Marell was pronounced dead and Deputy Neitsch was listed in serious condition.
