WALTON COUNTY DEPUTY ATTACKER ARRESTED

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office says a 26-year-old Crestview man was arrested after he attacked deputies. Deputies were called to a home in Santa Rosa Beach and found a man covered in blood. The victim said the suspect – identified as John Botelho – attacked him as he was gardening in the front yard of his home, beat him, then stabbed him with a pair of garden shears. A bystander intervened and Botelho left the scene. Deputies found him naked in Choctawhatchee Bay and he punched deputies and tried to pull them under water. Botelho was subdued and taken into custody. He is charged with resisting with violence, aggravated battery, and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was booked into the Walton County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
