BAY COUNTY POWER OUTAGE

Jeff Rogers, a spokesman for Gulf Power, said more than 11,000 customers in Bay County lost power just before 11 a.m. yesterday after a bird got into Gulf Power’s substation in Parker. Rogers said it was a small bird and had some nesting material, but apparently landed in the wrong place causing the power outage. Rogers said Gulf Power’s substations are gated, but open on top and while they do have squirrel protectors, it’s hard to stop a bird from landing. Power was restored to all but a few customers within 45 minutes.
