BEAR VISIT

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says a young black bear spent most of a day roaming around a family’s home in Santa Rosa County. The homeowner said the bear arrived Saturday morning at their home Holley. The animal was said to be 2 and 3 years old and weighed roughly 200 pounds. A Conservation Commission officer fired bean-bag rounds from a shotgun to scare the bear away. The officer also provided locks for the garbage can. David Telesco, the Conservation Commission’s bear management coordinator, says the adult bear population is estimated at about 120 in that area.
