Senator Bill Nelson, Florida’s only statewide elected Democrat, filed qualifying papers yesterday and will run for a fourth term although he faces a challenge from Republican Governor Rick Scott. Scott announced three weeks ago he was entering the Senate race, but has not yet qualified. However, Federal candidates, along with candidates for judgeships, state-attorney and public-defender, have until noon Friday to qualify. 17 of the state’s 27 incumbent U.S. House members also qualified yesterday including Republican Matt Gaetz of Fort Walton Beach.
