A majority of Brazilian Supreme Court justices has voted to convict former president Jair Bolsonaro of attempting a coup after his 2022 election defeat. Three of the five-member panel found him guilty on five charges, including leading a criminal organization. One justice has yet to rule before sentencing begins. A new Gallup survey shows only 35% of Americans now consider a college education “very important.” Another 40% rate it “fairly important,” while 24% say it is “not too important.” In 2019, 53% of adults called college very important, down from 70% in 2013 and 75% in 2010. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed UK Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson following new disclosures about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The government said Thursday that recently uncovered emails revealed Mandelson questioned Epstein’s 2008 conviction and described it as wrongful. Mortgage demand is climbing after interest rates dropped to their lowest level since October 2024. Freddie Mac reports the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell to 6.35% last week, down from 6.5% the week before.
