Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has filed a civil suit accusing five of the nation’s largest opioid manufacturers and four drug distributors of causing the opioid crisis that is killing an estimated 15 Floridians a day. Bondi predicted that any settlement with the defendants could be in the billions of dollars. Five other states also filed lawsuits against drug makers. The lawsuit says the drug manufacturers violated the state’s unfair and deceptive practices laws and Florida’s criminal racketeering laws. Distributors are accused of filling suspicious orders and failing to properly assess customers before filling those orders.
