A Democratic effort to hold a special session to increase education funding has died in the Florida Legislature, as Republican opposition blocked the idea. Democrats needed 23 senators, but got only 16. They needed 70 House members, but got only 41. A dozen House Republicans and 10 Senate Republicans did not cast votes.
