The Northwest Florida Daily News is reporting that Fort Walton Beach Police Chief Edward Ryan has resigned rather than accept being placed on administrative leave. Twelve complaints against Chief Ryan and Captain Tracy Hart, have been filed by Police Officer Don Hall including gender and racial discrimination, mishandling arrest procedures and theft of taxpayer dollars. Captain Hart remains on paid administrative leave. Ryan was sworn in on July 5, 2016, to replace Ted Litschauer, who retired, was previously an assistant chief for the Norfolk, Virginia, Police Department. City Manager Michael Beedie said Captain Bill Royal has been designated acting chief.
