GULF BREEZE BLACK BEAR SIGHTINGS

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continues to monitor recent sightings of at least two black bears in the city of Gulf Breeze. A video posted to Facebook on Tuesday showed an injured bear – which may have been hit by a car – hobbling toward a wooded area near the Somerset subdivision. Conservation Commission Public Information Coordinator Karen Parker said it is the FWC’s policy to avoid trapping an injured bear as they are usually capable of living a normal life, even while injured. Gulf Breeze Police Chief Rick Hawthorne said the injured bear has been roaming in Gulf Breeze neighborhoods for about a month.
