DOWNTOWN MURAL UNVIELED 1-26-17

The International Paper mill in Cantonment remains out of operation after the explosion last Sunday. IP EXPLOSION FOLLOW-UP 1-25-17

The International Paper mill has remained closed since Sunday’s explosion blast and there is no word when it will reopen. The 400 jobs at the plant are some of the highest paying in the area, averaging about $90,000 per job. The explosion damaged a pulp digester and a power house, but no injuries were reported.…MORE

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION 1-25-17

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting at an apartment complex off of Navy Boulevard. It happened around 11am yesterday morning at the Pines of Warrington Apartments located at 4101 West Navy Boulevard. The victim sustained superficial wounds and 33-year-old Breyon Curl was taken into custody. The incident remains under investigation.MORE

CYBER STALKER ARRESTED 1-25-17

A 31-year-old Escambia County man has been arrested on charges of aggravated stalking after he used public photos of women to harass them and their family members. FATAL STABBING 1-25-17

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan says a 45-year-old woman has been charged with stabbing two of her children. One of them – her 18-year-old son – has died from his injuries. INTERNATIONAL PAPER EXPLOSION FOLLOW-UP 1-24-17

International Paper in Cantonment has issued a statement about the explosion at the plant Sunday night. They said the explosion was “…a manufacturing process failure,” and said it released a mixture of wood fiber, water and pulping liquids into the surrounding area. ESCAMBIA-SANTA ROSA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE 1-24-17

The unemployment rate in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties continues to decline. Escambia County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly from 5.1 percent in November to 4.9 percent in December.  Florida Governor Rick Scott said Pensacola businesses added 3,800 jobs last year.
