ALLEGIANT AIR EXPANSION

Okaloosa County officials and Allegiant Air have announced an expansion of their operations at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. Thayne Klingler, Allegiant Air’s director of airport affairs, said the airline will establish a two-aircraft, year-round base, add five seasonal routes and provide more than 65 new high-paying jobs.MORE

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office will create a High Intensity Patrol to deal with the increase in violent crime in Myrtle Grove. Escambia County Fire-Rescue says a fire at an assisted living facility in north Escambia County was deliberately set. Firefighters responded to Enon Country Manor on Enon School Road about eight miles southeast of Walnut Hill late Saturday morning. 22 residents and two staff members were evacuated, but no injuries were reported. NICEVILLE TEEN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT

The Niceville Police Department says a 15-year-old boy was arrested after he accidentally shooting himself in the leg during a drug deal gone bad. Police say on January 15th he and his 17-year-old friend and another 15-year-old, drove to another teenager’s house on the evening of Jan. 15th to rob a drug dealer of marijuana.…MORE

A 28-year-old woman from Crestview is competing for the U.S. speed Skating team in the 2018 Winter Olympics South Korea. Mia Manganello’s parents opened Mia’s Italian Restaurant when she was a baby, but sold it to help Mia chase her dream. They eventually moved to Salt Lake City so she could receive better training. PENSACOLA MARDI GRAS PARADES

The heavy weekend rains in our area did not affect two of the Mardi Gras parades. The Friday night Illuminated parade and Saturday’s Grand Mardi Gras parade went off without rain but yesterday’s Krew of Wrecks parade on Pensacola Beach was cancelled. It will not be rescheduled.MORE

ECSD SHOOTING JUSTIFIED

The State Attorney’s Office an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy was justified in shooting an armed suspect in November. Four deputies went to a home on Holly Street after receiving an anonymous tip that Brittany Knapp – a fugitive with outstanding warrants – was at that location. BINGO MONEY LAUNDERERS CONVICTED

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a local couple has been convicted of stealing 8 million-dollars in bingo proceeds meant for charities. 67-year-old Larry Masino, and 65-year-old Dixie Masino, were convicted Wednesday of wire fraud conspiracy, operating an illegal gambling business and money laundering. DEPUTY ATTACKER ARRESTED

A 29-year-old Escambia County man was arrested for punching a deputy after a traffic stop in Ensley yesterday. Deputies stopped Joshua Russaw of Pensacola on Highway 29 near Detroit Boulevard, but he fought with a deputy, punching him at last once, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
